Cheaper than many expected.
Intel introduced updated processors for its flagship line of Core-X. The new Cascade Lake-X family includes four new chips – the Core i9-10980XE, Core i9-10940X, Core i9-10920X and Core i9-10900X.
The new chips surprise not only with their uncompromising performance, but also at a relatively low price. For example, the flagship Core i9-10980XE costs only 979 dollars, which is half the price of its predecessor. It is possible that Intel decided to reduce the cost of processors due to high competition with AMD.
Characteristics of new chips and comparison with predecessors.
The new chips are made according to the 14-nm process and, in fact, are a logical continuation of the line of last year’s Skylake-X Refresh series processors.
New items support four channels of DDR4-2933 memory – up to 256 GB in total, have hardware protection against Meltdow / Specter vulnerabilities, and also support technologies such as Turbo Boost Max 3.0, Wi-Fi 6, Thunderbolt 3, Optane SSD and DL Boost (neural module).
The updated generation of Cascade Lake-X processors will go on sale in November 2019. Single-chip systems will be based on the relatively old X299 chipset (LGA 2066).
