New Orleans firefighters’ pension fund is lacking, says new report

New information was released on Friday regarding benefits for New Orleans firefighters. According to the Office of Inspector General, an assessment conducted on the firefighters’ pension and relief fund found that first responders were lacking. The purpose of the report was to determine if the operations of the pension fund were best for the firefighters. The report says that although the entity has had a history of poor investment performance over the years, the pension fund has shown signs of improving financial stability and governance. However, the Inspector General said the fund remains significantly low compared to other pension schemes. The report found weaknesses in the fund’s documentation and policies, and also failed to meet all of the provisions of the cooperative agreement with the city of New Orleans.
